Consistency of decision making – Never have I met a Coach who’s been this solid with game plans, on & off the field. Richard joined us in 2013 and immediately set about reviewing the existing cricket system in the West Indies. He proposed a 19 point plan which has subsequently been implemented over the last 2 years. It encompassed comprehensive revision of all aspects of cricket, key priorities were the player pipeline and professional cricket. West Indies cricket is now 2 years into a new fully professional cricket structure. The new high performance program was central to WI cricket’s exceptional achievement of winning three world cups in 2016.
Richard acts with uncompromising integrity and purpose, he achieved in three years what I genuinely believe would have been a 10 year project in transforming the game in the region.

It is my pleasure to share my experience of working with Richard. Our paths crossed for the first time in 2005 when the Titans advertised for a Head Coach and I was part of the interviewing panel.
Immediately I was struck by his uniqueness of thought and method. Thankfully Richard was appointed as Head Coach and what has followed with the Titans is testimony to the changes in process, attention to detail, development of players and coaches and a unique ability of the players to perform under pressure and win the big matches that Richard and his support team created.
The immediate results were 6 trophies in 4 years, the development of special players for the Proteas (Faf du Plessis, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Dale Steyn, Paul Harris) to name a few. The identification of potential of Farhaan Berhadien, Imran Tahir, Heino Kuhn and Roelof v/d Merwe) The list goes on and on.
Gulam Bodi and Paul Harris produced their best performances in semifinals and finals. The growth of this special group of players meant that the Titans lost the Cinderella mantle and replaced this with dominance on the domestic screen that still exists today.
Richard displayed this unique ability of strengthening the mental side of every single player creating self belief and confidence that delivered superior individual performances. At the same time, Richard strengthened the team culture around a diverse group of players.
So individual accountability and a strong team culture were the key secrets that were developed and fostered by Richard.
Richard is a perfectionist dedicated to excellence in all that he does and sometimes it means that he doesn’t see eye to eye with others that don’t share this excellence mindset, but this is the secret to his success. For those that have shared this mindset, he has helped them grow by challenging and mentoring them as players, coaches and people.
He is and always will be one of the very best coaches that I have worked with.
